Human growth hormone has certainly effected the sports world in the past. It will continue to effect the sports world in the future. Most people think of Major League Baseball and all the scandal surrounding it when they think of Human growth hormone. The truth is though that Human Growth Hormone rocked the world of track and field as well in the 1980's. Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson was stripped of his gold medal at the Olympics after it was found that he took such substances.
The interesting thing is that we saw human growth hormone used in the National Basketball Association recently in regards to Orlando Magic small forward Rashard Lewis. Lewis does seem to have quite a bit of money to throw around so maybe he wanted to gain advantage by being faster, stronger and increasing his jumping ability. He did sign a very lucrative contract with the Magic a couple of years ago. You don't typically hear of this sort of thing in the National Basketball Association, but the truth is people are trying to gain an edge in nearly every single sport out there. It is hard to say whether Lewis is a part of an epidemic of using these substances in the National Basketball Association or if this is just one isolated case where he got caught.

Human growth hormone has indeed infected the National Football League in some positions where you wouldn't first suspect usage of human growth hormone. Todd Sauerbrun, a longtime punter in the league tested positive for human growth hormone several years ago. Sauerbrun was suspended for the incident. You typically would expect this type of story coming out a defensive tackle's camp, but the fact that a punter was suspended for human growth hormone was almost a comical issue in many sports circles.
The world of baseball has been so greatly impacted by human growth hormone and other performance enhancing drugs that you have seen plenty of denials coming from so many different players. One of those players who was most adamant in denying the fact that he ever used human growth hormone was David Justice. The allegation popped up from Justice's time with the New York Yankees. It seemed according to the Mitchell Report, this kind of behavior was running rampant in the Yankees club house. Andy Pettite certainly did come clean about his usage of performance enhancers. Justice remains stern in his denial of all allegations.
