About Emerson
Emerson created their first TV commercial in 2006 after more than 100 years in business. By continuing the strategy of acquiring companies and offshoots of companies, Emerson has grown steadily. In 2006, Emerson acquired Knurr AG and Artesyn Technologies which expanded their network considerably. The company made twenty billion dollars that year. In 2007, they decided to acquire both Lionville Systems and Motorola's embedded communications offshoot business. This clearly worked as Emerson's profits for 2007 reached a new high of twenty-two billion dollars. It was that year that international sales beat US sales by two percent.
History Of Emerson
Emerson was founded in 1890 as the Emerson Electric Manufacturing Company. It was started by two brothers named Alexander and Charles Meston. They obtained their financial backing from a fellow named John Wesley Emerson. They began business by manufacturing electric motors and fans. By 1897, half of their business was in creating and selling ceiling fans. By only 1919 the sales reached three million dollars. The company expanded in 1920 only to have sales fall by two-thirds in 1922 due to the Great Depression. Thanks to the toils of war, Emerson went through several presidents and owners. War contracts kept the company alive. Charles Knight became CEO in 1973 and kept the company growing steadily by acquiring smaller companies to add to his empire.
