About Boker
Boker is positioned as a family-owned but internationally friendly brand distributed widely in the United States and highly recognizable due to its unique chestnut tree symbol. The demand was so vast and increasing rapidly and therefore there was a need to start producing knives outside of Solingen and across the ocean in New York. The tree symbol is used for the American-made products as well.
History Of Boker
The Boker company began in 1829 when Hermann and Robert Boker started producing sabers. By 1830 their company had began producing 2,000 units a week and employing more and more people until the family figured out that the production needed to be spread out to operate more efficiently. Heinrich Boker traveled to Solingen in Germany to work with Hermann Heurser, a specialist in the field of cutting tools. The family also had to solve the problems that customers overseas had with the name 'Boker' with an umlaut, which was difficult to pronounce and hard to recognize by the illiterate, who were the majority. They came up with the symbol of the chestnut tree, which grew outside their factory. Unfortunately, 100 years later that symbolic tree was the victim of a lightening strike, and only an artist's carving of the tree on the remaining stump is left behind.
