The Most Innovative Ninja Weapons in the World

Ninja's have been among the most revered warriors for thousands of years. They have at one time been the world's best and best trained assassins. They were known for their astounding techniques in sabotage, infiltration, assassination and espionage. Over the centuries the Ninja have used many different weapons and tools.

These weapons were well thought out and made especially to kill their targets. The following is a small list of the most famous of Ninja weapons.

The most basic of the Ninja weapons was the sword, although it was very different from any of the other swords. It was shorter and much smaller than the samurai sword, and the Ninja designed them this way so that they would have better and straighter thrust attacks.

The Katana is the best known of the Ninja weapons and was made of a specialized steal which could slice completely through any enemy.

Short swords and daggers were also used as Ninja weapons. These were made small enough that they could be easily carried and used. One example of these was the kusarigama. This was short handled blade that had a weighted chain attached. This chain was used to block the opponent and then the blade was used to finish him off. Later Ninjas began to set the end of the chain on fire. This way the opponent would focus on the chain and would not notice the blade.

Another of the favored Ninja weapons was the throwing star, called the Shuriken. This was a metal weapon in the shape of a star. Each point was razor sharp, however the actual star was not accurate, at least not as accurate as shown in the movies. The star rarely killed anyone but they were used as deterrents so the enemy would not follow the Ninja.

Other interesting Ninja weapons included some that were not actually kill weapons, but were instead weapons used to deter the opponent, or to surprise the enemy. Others were used to quickly get away from chasing enemies. Some of these were quite ingeneous and have even been studied by modern day weapon makers.

Darts were used to attack from a short distance off and stun the enemy, so they could then be killed with one of the other weapons.

The Mizugumo was a set of wooden shoes that were supposedly used to help Ninjas walk on water. Today, they are not considered very stable though.

Breathing tubes were also invented by the Ninja, and although they cannot be said to be weapons, these were used to breathe under water and allowed them to attack using surprise.

Ninja's also invented a weapon called caltrop which was used to slow the enemy down. They were nails that were welded together and fell on three prongs with one of these prongs sticking up in the air so that the chasing enemy would get his feet pierced while trying to follow the Ninja.

As you can see the Ninja were strong warriors who were among the worlds elite warriors for hundreds of years. Their weapon making abilities were astounding and even today some Ninja weapons still inspire admiration and interest, and there are many collectors worldwide.
