A Reproduction of the Excalibur Sword
In order to fully understand the excitement and character that surrounds the Excalibur Sword, one should know of the swords history. Arturo was born the son a king and a mother that passed after birth. His father King Uther, sent him to be raised and educated by Merlin, a wizard, who was to keep secret Arthur's heritage. Merlin brought young Arthur to another castle, where lived another boy, Kay. Arthur was taught the sciences of the world as well as magic. King Uther died and in looking for an heir none was found. Merlin was asked to find a successor. To do so he made an anvil with a sword stuck deep within it. Many noble's tried their strength to find none were worthy. While at a tournament, Arthur forgot Kay's sword, and after finding the guest house door closed, he came upon the sword in the stone. He grabbed the sword and out it came, not understanding the importance he tried to give it to Kay to use.
After noticing the inscription "Excalibur" on the side, Arthur was made to replace the sword within the stone. Again the nobles tried and failed. For a second time Arthur pulled the Excalibur Sword from the stone. Merlin pronounced that Arthur was now King Arthur and the true heir to the crown. King Arthur was revolted against by the noble's. Merlin's magic and the help of those nobles true to the new King defeated the revolt and started a new reign of rule by King Arthur and his appointed Knights of the Round Table.
The Excalibur Sword stands for strength, bravery and wisdom. Those who own a duplicate of this sword, do so knowing what it represents. Excalibur in Welch is Caledfwlch, which means "battle notch". Although King Arthur was ruler of most of England, and created the Knights of the Round Table, he is mostly famous for the story or myth behind Excalibur. Although the original has never been found, many replicas have been made in its likeness. The myth of the whereabouts of the Excalibur Sword is that while King Arthur was on his death bed, he had a knight, Sir Bedivere, brings it to the lake and throws it in, as it came to the water and hand reached out and grabbed it. At that same time King Arthur is said to have passed and is the one who caught the sword in the lake, where he will wait till he returns to save Britain from a threat.
The whole life and legend of King Arthur and what he represents lies in the myth and stories of Excalibur. Excalibur represents life in its many quests and trials and the power to overcome. Owning a replica of this sword would be a sign that the owner believes in life's changes and surprise's.
