Drizzt Swords: Own a Twinkle or Icingdeath of Your Very Own
There is no doubt that the Forgotten Realms of the Dungeons and Dragons concept-line of fantasy novels and role playing games is one of the most popular places for people to spend their free time role playing in. There are many note worthy characters in the setting. However, one character stands above many for his popularity and descriptive personality. This character is Drizzt Do'Urden a drow ranger from the underdark that chose to cast off the darkness of his race and live nobly in the light of day.
More famous than even his appearance and name are the swords Drizzt wields. Early in the books he wielded whatever weapon he could find but mostly the twin scimitars he was taught to wield by his father Zaknafein. The Drizzt swords most often referred to in the literature and best known by fans are his famous scimitars Icingdeath and Twinkle.
The Two Drizzt Swords
The two swords used by Drizzt are both scimitars and in point of fact look fairly similar to each other outside of the difference between their magical enhancements. These weapons have been remade in the real world as a highly collectible set made of carbon steel and engraved with dark elven script along their blades.
Icingdeath
Icingdeath was found as loot inside the lair of the white dragon of the same name. It is a magical scimitar that has the power to completely render the wield immune to heat and flame. It also has a solid chance to freeze an opponent and bites hard with a bone deep chill. The original in the stories of Drizzt was a brilliant white in color and there is normally a simulated diamond attached to the pommel of the sword if the designer is going for an authentic look.
Twinkle
This weapon was given to Drizzt by a moonelf since it seemed a good match to Icingdeath. Twinkle is incredibly sharp and has a sapphire blue glow about it in the books. In many modern reproductions of the scimitar there will either be a powdered crust of sapphire blue along the blade or there will be a faux-sapphire attached to the pommel. Sometimes there will be both.
The scimitars Drizzt wields have appeared in many books that the drow stars in. Some of the most notable are the Hunter's Swords trilogy and the Transitions trilogy. Each of them has its own merit and is an excellent read. Reading the books or playing the games that Drizzt stars in or makes a cameo appearance in generally leads many fans into a desire to own a set of his fine blades for themselves.
There are several companies that make replicas of Drizzt's swords and there are even authentically licensed versions. Anyone who feels a burning desire to rise above the darkness in their own soul and reach to the light might find it a bit easier to touch the sky when wielding these magical weapons of well crafted myth and fable.
