The Samurai Rurouni Kenshin and His Blades
Rurouni Kenshin is a Japanese anime series that was developed from the manga Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story and screened in Japan from January 1996 through September 1998. Produced by Aniplex and Fuji TV, the final episode of the series never did air on television in Japan and can be found only as a bonus feature on the DVD and VHS releases.
The story of the Samurai Rurouni Kenshin is the story of Himura Kenshin, a wanderer who is revealed to be the deadly former Assassin of the Shadows, Hitokiri Battosai. After participating in the Bakumatsu War, Kenshin rejects his assassin persona and adopts a new sword, the Sakabato, or reverse katana, which has an inward turning blade and which can thus never be used to kill. He takes up the life of a wanderer whose only aim is to defend others without harming anyone and eventually his adventures lead him to Kyoto. Upon being confronted with damsel-in-distress Kamiya Kaoru who is being attacked by someone falsely calling himself Hitokiri Battosai, Kenshin intervenes and defeats the impostor. He then joins Kamiya's household and tries to make a life for himself in Kyoto but his past returns to haunt him.
