Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto: Getsuruito The Moon Tear Sword
Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto is a Japanese anime series that was broadcast from October 2006 through April 2007 on Japan's streaming internet channel GyaO. It was created by Ryosuke Takahashi and the Japanese animation studio Sunrise Inc., and the entire series is now available in a set of nine DVDs.
Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto's storyline concerns the 17-year old Akizuki Yojiro, a mercenary with a dark and mysterious past who is known as Eien no Shikaku: The Eternal Assassin, and is set in the Late Shogunate, or Bakumatsu, period. Yojiro's magical katana blade, the legendary Moon Tear Sword Getsuruito, alerts him whenever they are in the presence of the evil Head of the Conqueror, Hasha no Kubi, and he is then compelled to track down and destroy this force. But Yojiro himself has a checkered past and blames himself for the assassination of Sakamoto Ryoma, his late friend, mentor and master but it is when he travels to Yokohama and joins the adventure kabuki group, the Yuyama Troupe, that the fun really begins. Will the troupe's leader, Yuyama Kakunojo, avenge the murder of her parents? And will Yojiro ever reveal his true feelings for Yuyama? The answers to these and other questions are revealed in Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto: The Series.
