History Of J.A. Henckels

J.A. Henckels was founded as ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS in 1731 by Peter Henckels from Solingen, Germany. The company originally started manufacturing stainless steel knife blades and now manufactures knives, scissors other kitchen gadgets. The main company headquarters remain in Solingen but the company has wholly owned subsidiaries in other countries and their products are available in over 100 countries. The company touts a number of industry firsts, including the world's first manufacturer of stainless steel blades, the first forged knife with a molded handle and the first traditional knife with an enlarged bolster. The company now has two brands, the J.A. Henckels International (established in 1895) brand, which focuses on more economical products and the Zwilling J.A. Henckels high end products.
