About Gerber

Gerber has grown to be a major influence in child nutrition and food products. Their products are available in many countries around the world and they are often seen as one of the "big three" in the industry, along with Heinz and Nestle. The company has adjusted to recent trends by introducing organic food products. However, many niche brands have been developed for the most discerning parents who opt for minimally processed baby foods or require special diet needs be met. While Gerber is widely available and less expensive, it is competing with many "homemade" and natural brands distributed by natural food companies such as Healthy Times and Earth's Best.

History Of Gerber

Gerber Products Company started in 1927 by Daniel and Dorothy Gerber. The family owned a canning company in Fremont, CA which they used to create baby products for their own child. After employees of the plant requested samples the company was launched and a year later baby food products were being sold nationally. Today the company makes a range of baby and toddler nutrition products as well as baby care products like bottles and baby wash. They also partner with NESTL? Nutrition which operates the Nestl Research Development network.
