History Of Case

The Case Corporation has been around since its founder, Jerome Increase Case, produced the first of his tractors in 1847. Since that time, Case has expanded its product line and has become the predominate force in agricultural and construction equipment, relied upon by millions. Jerome Case, born into a farming family in New York State, got his first unquenchable thirst of agriculture and the technology behind agriculture at the age of 9 from one of his favorite magazines, Genessee Farmer. He started out selling threshing machines and introduced his first portable steam engine in 1869. This rudimentary engine, which was pulled around by horses, one first prize at the Paris Exposition competition and is now on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. In 1890, one year before the death of Jerome Case, the Case Corporation expanded internationally, building its first facility in Argentina. With the introduction of the gas engine in 1895, the Case Corporation was able to dramatically expand its product line to include plows, buggies and even automobiles. From 1904 to the present, the Case Corporation has continually adapted with the times and technologies to remain in the upper echelon of agricultural equipment companies. In 1999, New Holland N.V. and Case Corporation merged to form Case New Holland. This merger created the agricultural and construction equipment leader, worldwide. Fiat S.p.A., the company that also owns the automobile company, is the majority shareholder of Case. Case is run via a board of eleven directors, headed by Sergio Marchionne, which was appointed as the Chairman of the Board on April 7, 2006. Mr. Marchionne is also the CEO of Fiat S.p.A. and Fiat Group Automobiles, and has previously served as Chairman of the Board for four other companies. Case is traded on the Milan Stock Exchange under CNH, MI.
