The Colt Python is a revolver manufactured by Colt from 1955 until 1999. The Python is a double action revolver chambered for the powerful .357 Magnum cartridge. What makes the Python unique is that just as the trigger is pressed, the cylinder locks up tight against the forcing cone for the duration of the hammer strike. This action helps add to the Python's accuracy and muzzle velocity. The Python was used by U.S. law enforcement for a number of years but fell out of favor with the introduction of more advanced semiautomatic pistols. The Python's unique look, quality construction, and accuracy make it a popular revolver among collectors.
