The MP40, which literally meant machine pistol 40, was a submachine gun developed by Nazi Germany during World War II. The MP40 had a relatively low rate of fire and low recoil, which made it more manageable than other contemporary submachine guns. During World War II the weapon was used extensively by paratroopers and platoon and squad leaders, and other troops.
