Spring Airsoft Guns
One advantage of spring powered airsoft guns is that they are normally highly reliable. Spring guns have very few moving parts hence there is very little to go wrong. This also makes spring airsoft guns extremely easy to use. There is no gas to refill or battery to recharge. All you have to do is cock the spring and fire. Spring airsoft guns are usually some of the most cost effective since they are easier and cheaper to manufacture. Spring guns can also be some of the fastest firing in terms of muzzle velocity. Since the strength of the spring is only limited by the strength of the person firing the gun, a much larger spring can be used. This makes spring airsoft guns a popular choice for sniper rifles. However, airsoft spring guns lower cost and ease of use also makes them excellent beginner weapons.

Gas Airsoft Guns
Gas airsoft guns propel BBs by using compressed gas, usually CO2 or Green Gas. One of the advantages of gas guns is that they allow for semiautomatic and in some cases fully automatic fire. Gas airsoft guns can also provide a realistic blowback function for added realism. Gas powered airsoft pistols are highly popular for this reason. High end gas powered sniper rifles are also popular because of the added power, velocity, and range these rifles can provide.

Electric Airsoft Guns
Electric airsoft guns use battery powered electric motors to turn a set of gears which forces a spring to compress a pneumatic cylinder. Unlike in a standard spring gun, this operation is done automatically allowing for an extremely high rate of fire. Advances in airsoft gun technology of the past few years have allow airsoft guns to keep this high rate of fire without sacrificing muzzle velocity. For these reasons electric airsoft guns have become some of the most popular weapons among airsoft enthusiasts.
